CROSSING JÄMTLAND, 8 DAYS

Once in a lifetime experience! Become a real “musher” ….run your own team of dogs and
together with the guide the dogs will take you on an unforgettable adventure…Crossing Jämtland! The tour takes you trough breathtaking views amongst the magnificent mountains and wilderness of Sweden. We spend our days travelling with the dogs and the nights in tents and mountain station. The whole group helps to set up the camp at night and above all - take care of the dogs! This can be a tough adventure, but I’m sure...amazing memories from Jämtland.

Day 1
Arrival and check in at the Husky lodge located at the sleddogkennel. We say Hi to the dogs, and we show you how to harness the dogs, trying the sleds & go through the technique. We take a look at the equipment, get your gear and after a nice dinner we look at the map and pack for tomorrows adventures.

Day 2
Early morning we pack the car and set of to the mountains. Time to harness the dogs and put them in the team. The dogs scream out their energy…when the start line looses and the dog's sets of, it's totally quiet – at last … let the adventure begin. You need to work as a team and assist the dogs by run and kick. We go about 3 h before stopping for lunch & the dogs get snacks, now you should have the right “musherfeeling”! Later on, when its time to set camp, some of us take care of the dogs and the rest put up the tent and prepare food. Whilst we are eating a nice dinner the dogs has gone to rest, and we have a nice fire going.

Day 3
Our first morning in the mountains… after the dogs and our self had breakfast, we are on the
way! Today's rout goes through a long mountain pass with magnificent cliffs, Lunndörrspasset.
Out of this we go down to forest terrain & now the sled technique is crucial. The dogs are still fresh and gets extra alert when the track turns… you never know if it's a reindeer or elk behind the next curve. We see lots of nice camp sites everywhere, and finally we choose the best one! As always the dogs are taking care of first of all.

Day 4
Today is one of the heaviest phases, we have to get up on the mountain from the valley where we had our night camp. It's hard work for us and the dogs, but when we see the delightsome view around us we are getting paid back. When camp is set, we attend to the dogs to check that everyone is ok. We check their paws, claws and feel trough legs and body. The get some extra snacks for good work. Together we make dinner, some of us cook and some are melting snow for water to us and the dogs.

Day 5
The track goes in open terrain and in bad weather it's very exposed. It can change fast.. from blue sky sun to storm & blizzard. If the visibility is low it's important to keep the group together, and it can be necessary to stop in an emergency cabin. Hard wind takes much energy from the dogs, therefore it's always the weather that decides how far the dogs takes us on a day. At the end of this day we will get a nice reward:

We check in at the station, now its time for some mountain luxury! The station has everything you need: a restaurant, sauna, shower & of course, a lovely bed that's yours for one night! Nevertheless, first we have a 3-course dinner with local deliciousness.

Day 6
Before having breakfast, we feed the dogs. They need some time to rest before running, so have lots of time to eat a nice breakfast buffet. We pack our things and soon we are on our way towards new adventures!  It can be hard work for us and the dogs, but when we see the delightsome view around us we are getting paid back.. Together we make dinner, some of us cook and some are melting snow for water to us and the dogs. Our last night in tent.

Day 7
When you wake up this morning you feel like a real “musher”. White, Morwen, Rover & the other dogs have all become close friends. Today they take us trough Vålådalens Nature reserve, a very nice area with mixed terrain. At this point you a real master on the sled so it's no problem. The trip is coming to an end. We take farewell of the mountains, the car is waiting at the tourist station, & we drive back to Huskylodge. After shower and our last dinner together maybe we have time to take a look at all nice pictures we taken.

Day 8
After breakfast its time to say goodbye to the dogs, the guide & Jämtland. Hopefully, with a lot of nice memories that will last for a lifetime!
